More opportunities for locals as the port is reinstated in Mombasa

Three years since the Kenya Port Authority ordered shipping line agents to nominate all cargo on transit to be cleared in Nairobi, as the government had given a transportation contract to the SGR, the port of Mombasa is back. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir had asked President Ruto to issue a communication through the relevant ministry to ensure the order becomes reality. He promised to work with the national government where the law permits to make sure Mombasa residents and the county government get what is due to them. The president did not disappoint and made the dream of every coastal resident.

The process to fully reinstate the port is still ongoing and once complete residents will have the chance to apply for the opportunities. The port is run by thousands of employees and that will have a major positive impact on employment in Mombasa. I interviewed a local and the local said the port might also improve the security of the region as youths will have work and capital from the work can be used to employ other youths hence a good money flow in the city.

The people are now grateful to the new president and hope he'll do a lot on helping the less privileged people in what he terms to as the hustler initiative. The president had used to port among in his manifesto and even got trolled by the opposition supporters saying he wouldn't do as he was only bluffing to get more votes in the region.
